Temporary Road Closures for Residential Street Parties
If you are planning to hold a street party and wish to use the public highway it will be necessary to officially close the road. To do this, you need to apply for a Temporary Road Closure Order.
A Temporary Road Closure Order is required for any event which may stop the flow of traffic on the public highway within the Horsham District.
Please apply for your temporary road closure at least six weeks before the event.
There is no charge or insurance requirement if the road closure is for a residential street party.
What counts as a Street Party?
You must apply for this type of permit if you wish to close a section of road that;
- Is solely, or mostly residential e.g. a cul-de-sac or minor side road,
- Will not affect the flow of traffic on a main road, and is not a through-road,
- Will not affect any bus routes,
- Will not restrict or block access to premises or roads near the closure,
- Has the support and permission of all of the residents on closed road.
How to apply for a temporary road closure
To Apply you will need to follow the link below to our Citizen Portal. you will be prompted to sign in, or create an account, please follow the steps below to apply.
- Sign in or create a new account on the Citizen Portal
- On the left side of the screen, select the select “Request New Licence” on the menu options.
- select the Licence type 'Road Closure Permit' and complete the application form.

After you apply
On receipt of the application form, the necessary consultation procedure will be carried out. Once the application is approved, you will be sent a copy of the Road Closure Notice via email. Please make sure you display the notice on site in areas such as the beginning and end of the closed road, and any paths or roads leading to the closed area.
Please ensure that appropriate road closure signage and barriers are sourced by the organiser and set in place on the day of the event.
