Armed Forces Covenant

We committed to the Armed Forces Community Covenant in 2014. This is a voluntary statement of support between us and the local Armed Forces Community, including all those who are serving or have served in the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Merchant Navy.

We have a responsibility to ensure that Armed Forces personnel are not disadvantaged as a result of serving their country and should receive fair and proper treatment in recognition of their commitment and sacrifice.

The Community Covenant aims to:

  • Encourage local communities and the Armed Forces community to support each other
  • Nurture public understanding and promote awareness of issues affecting the Armed Forces community
  • Recognise and remember the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community
  • Encourage activities which help to integrate the Armed Forces community into local life

It is intended to compliment the Armed Forces Covenant, which outlines the moral obligations between the nation, government and the Armed Forces, at a local level. The Ministry of Defence has produced guidance detailing the scope of the Community Covenant.
