Changes we need to know about
These are some examples of changes we need to know about to ensure you are receiving the correct amount of Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support:
- you stop receiving Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance, Pension Credit, Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit ends
- Changes to your Working and/or Child Tax Credits
- you move
- a child leaves school or leaves home
- you have a baby
- changes to childcare
- someone moves in or out of your property
- your income, the income of anyone living with you, changes
- you, or anyone living with you, go into hospital, a nursing home, or prison
- a change of employment for yourself or anyone who lives with you
- a change in capital or savings for yourself or anyone who lives with you
- your rent changes
- you receive a decision from the Home Office
- someone starts to receive Carer's Allowance for looking after you or your partner
- if you change the bank account your Housing Benefit is paid into
When to report a change
For Housing Benefit claims you must notify the Council within one month of the date of any change in your circumstances that may affect your benefit entitlement.
If you report a change outside of this time limit you may lose out on benefit or be required to pay back an overpayment of benefit.
