Changes to Council Tax reminders
We now contact our residents by text and email, to reduce the amount we spend on paper and postage. If you receive a text message or email from Horsham District Council because you are late paying your Council Tax, please be assured that the message is genuine. There is no need to contact us if you have recently paid and your account is up-to-date. Please note that these messages are sent by our Revenues & Benefits partners, Milton Keynes City Council, and will be from hdcrevenues@milton-keynes.gov.uk
For more information about messages we send, visit our Check if a text message or email from Horsham District Council is genuine webpage.
Council Tax is payable on every domestic property and pays part of the cost of services provided by your local councils.
These services include:
- education
- fire and police services
- roads
- libraries
- rubbish collections
- planning
Council Tax is a daily charge that is paid over 10 or 12 monthly instalments which are shown on your Council Tax bill.
Like many other councils, Horsham District Council is facing some difficult financial decisions. In order to protect local services, we must ensure that monies owed are collected promptly. Your Council Tax bill sets out a monthly payment plan with payments due to be paid on 1st of each month. The regulations for Council Tax state that a reminder notice may be issued 7 days after the payment was due to be made. Prompt payment ensures that the Council’s costs are minimised meaning that it has more money available to provide vital local services.
We do offer alternative payment dates for those residents who wish to pay by Direct Debit. The alternative payment plan dates available are the 15th or the 25th of the month.
If you are struggling to pay you should contact the Council Tax team hdc-revenues@milton-keynes.gov.uk as soon as possible or visit our webpage https://www.horsham.gov.uk/community/managing-your-money-and-debt-advice.
