About the role:

Horsham District Council is looking for a Democratic Services Officer to join our small dynamic Democratic Services team, working to facilitate the Council’s decision-making processes.

As Democratic Services Officer you will provide administrative and secretarial support to committees, sub-committees and advisory groups, including collating agendas and taking concise, accurate minutes. You will assist with the general running of the Democratic Services team including updating information on the Council’s website (using the modern.gov committee management system) and providing information and support to Councillors and officers on constitutional matters. You will also provide support to the Electoral Services function during the election period, as required.

The role involves covering evening meetings (typically around 7.30pm but some can go on later) around twice a month. At the time of an election, working additional hours may be required and work would be predominantly office based during this period.

Starting salary will be offered dependent on skills and experience.

About you:

To succeed in this role, you must have good administration and minute taking skills along with a pro-active approach to work and excellent communication skills. You must be able to prioritise your work and be flexible, responding to the needs of the team at the time.

The post would be ideally suited to an experienced Democratic Services Officer, although applicants with suitable knowledge, skills and qualifications are welcome to apply. The role would also be suitable to someone looking for a career in Local Government as you will gain extensive experience working with both Councillors and senior officers.
