About the role:
Horsham District Council is looking for an Environmental Health Practitioner to join the Private Sector Housing team in the Environmental Health and Licensing department. This busy and supportive team covers all housing inspections and enforcement, facilitation of disabled facilities grants and caravan site enforcement. The postholder will concentrate mainly on enforcement of new and existing private sector housing legislation and HMO licensing.
As an Environmental Health Practitioner, you will respond to requests for service from residents and follow through the case to achieve resolution of the reasonable issues raised. There will be opportunities to participate in carrying out inspection programmes for HMOs and investigation of unlicensed HMOs, following through the enforcement procedure where needed.
We work flexibly, based in the office or working from home as suits each individual and team, and in agreement with the team leader.
About you:
To succeed as an Environmental Health Practitioner, you will be interested in helping vulnerable people, assessing best courses of action for a wide range of situations and being part of a team with a passion to solve problems. You will be required to attend visit sites and travel around the district, therefore, a full and current UK driving licence is essential. As an Environmental Health Practitioner, you will be able to work independently, but with the backing of a friendly and supportive team. You will either have an Environmental Health Degree or Diploma, or equivalent qualifications and experience in the relevant areas.
Experience and knowledge of Environmental Health issues and enforcement of the relevant legislation is desirable, but support and training are available for the right candidate to achieve these skills. An ability to deal with difficult situations and customers, and the ability to relate to people and encourage the desired outcomes will be an advantage.
For an informal discussion about this role please call Penny Marsh, Principal Environmental Health Officer, on 01403 215423.
