Council leaflet drop to spread message of support during pandemic

During the current health crisis, it is crucial that residents across the entire District are provided with accurate and up to date information during these difficult times.

With some residents unable to access the internet or engage on social media, Horsham District Council, working in conjunction with West Sussex County Council, has committed to provide residents with information straight to their homes.

From 20 April, every household will receive a printed leaflet promoting what help is available, who is eligible for help and how to access help, including a phone line which will be manned from 8am to 8pm seven days a week, and a dedicated website with links to vital services.

Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, community groups, parish and neighbourhood councils and Horsham District Council have worked together to create a district–wide volunteering scheme to target support at those who need it most, opening some 27 Community Volunteer Hubs with teams of volunteers. The teams distribute food, medicines and essential supplies and make calls to the vulnerable who may just need to hear a friendly voice in these uncertain times.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Community Matters and Wellbeing Cllr Tricia Youtan said:

“Our plan to distribute vital information to residents has never been more important. Ensuring key advice and contacts are delivered to all households is a core priority for us, so that no one misses out on the help they need.

The Community Volunteer Hubs continue to do a great job in supporting the most vulnerable members of our society, manned by an amazing 1,600 volunteers from around the District.

“As a council we remain extremely thankful to all those giving their time and talents to help people at this extremely worrying time, and are proud to see our whole community pulling together. Please do keep up your good work.”
