As part of the recent National Road Safety Week, the Southwater Neighbourhood Wardens asked schools in their parish if their students would like to take part in a poster competition. The aim was to make drivers aware of the dangers they present to pupils outside their schools, and to persuade motorists to drive and park safely.

The response to the competition was overwhelming with many amazing designs, bright colours and clever slogans. After a lot of consideration and discussion, a winning poster was selected from each of the three schools. The winners were presented with their prizes by Southwater Parish Councillors Ilanit Slowly and Nicola Brown at a small event at Beeson House, as proud friends and family watched on.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Protection Cllr Tricia Youtan commented:

It’s always great to hear of young people thinking creatively to improve safety for others. I’m sure that these fantastic posters will encourage road users to be extra mindful in the vicinity of schools. Well done to all of the pupils who took part, and congratulations to the winners Amir, Lowri and William.
