Horsham District Council is launching a new survey inviting comments and insights from local people as they prepare to refurbish Horsham’s The Capitol theatre next year. Plans to refurbish The Capitol were approved by councillors earlier this year in February. The theatre, which is almost 90 years old, was last refurbished some 21 years ago in 2003. Consequently, many aspects of its infrastructure, design and layout need to be updated to align with current and future audience needs and environmental needs. This will help ensure that a thriving, affordable cultural offer remains at the heart of the services provided by the Council. The proposed refurbishments will provide increased seating capacity in the auditorium, substantial improvements to the buildings infrastructure to help achieve the Councils energy efficiency targets, and improvements to the overall internal layout of the building to enhance customer experience. Gathering thoughts and insights from members of the public is incredibly important to us and will play a crucial role in shaping the future of The Capitol. The survey is open to the public from Monday 12 August and will close on Monday 30September. Commenting on the survey, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture Cllr David Skipp said: “Our customers are at the heart of this refurbishment initiative and I am very excited by the proposals to improve the overall customer experience and environmental impacts at this much-loved venue. “To help us gain better understanding of what is important to you about The Capitol offer is really key.
