Horsham District Community Lottery celebrated its fifth anniversary this year and to celebrate it launched a prize draw where local charities and community groups had the chance to win £500.
The lucky prize draw winner was Roffey Football Club.
The £500 cheque was presented by Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing Cllr Sam Raby at the club’s training ground at Ifield Community College in Crawley.
Receiving the £500 cheque were Club Chairman Phil Gibbs and first team manager Jack Munday, amongst many of the trainers and players.
The Community Lottery has been benefitting local good causes, helping not-for-profit and charity groups fundraise online since 2019.
Roffey FC is a local football club based in Horsham, West Sussex, with teams playing in Men's First, Under23s, Under18s, Under 17s, Veterans and from July, a Women's Under 18 team will be joining.
The Men’s team currently plays in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division, and plays at the Bartholomew Way Ground in Horsham – fondly known as the Theatre of Trees.
Cllr Sam Raby commented:
It was a pleasure to meet with the managers, trainers and players of this club who, in addition to playing football, are doing so much to support their local community, using the power of football to engage and empower young people, and helping people to get active, improve their wellbeing and create positive role models in the community.
Club Chairman Phil Gibbs added:
We were absolutely thrilled to receive £500 from the Council’s Lottery Draw.
It has come at the perfect moment for us as we are renovating the clubhouse to turn it into a proper hub both for the club and the whole community.
We are using the money to cover the cost of new chairs and tables, making it much more comfortable for all sorts of occasions- parties, business meetings during the day, and the use of our bar which will soon be open to the community at certain times during the week.
We are set to make this into a special, social place for North Horsham.
