What is fly-tipping?
Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of waste. Dumped materials can be anything from a single bag of rubbish to large quantities of waste emptied by trucks. The waste is usually dumped to avoid disposal costs.
Fly tipping is a problem because of the potential harm it may cause to water supplies and the environment. It is also a risk to humans, wildlife and farm animals and spoils the enjoyment of our environment.
The penalty for fly tipping is a fine of up to £50,000 and/or 12 months imprisonment.
How you can help us tackle fly-tipping
There are two ways you can help us to tackle fly tipping:
- If you see fly-tipped waste, please report it to us
- If you have waste to get rid of, make sure you use a licensed waste carrier. You could be fined if your waste is fly-tipped.
