If you do not want to sign up to the garden waste service you will need to find an alternative way of dealing with your garden waste. Try home composting, or take your garden waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Site free of charge where it is sent off for composting.
Sign up for garden waste collections
Garden waste disposal is a paid-for service in Horsham District. You'll get convenient kerbside garden waste collections for a whole year.
- The service runs for a 12 month period from 1 April to 31 March
- We make 25 collections per year. Bins are collected every two weeks, except at Christmas
- Visit our Garden waste bin page for information on what you can and cannot put in your garden waste bin
- There is no discount for signing up part-way through the year
- If you do not have a garden waste bin at your home, you will need to buy one when you sign up for the service. The garden waste bin has green sides and a brown lid. Garden waste bins cost £50 for a 140 litre and £55 for a 240 litre bin
- You can sign up extra bins to the service
You can sign up to pay by direct debit each year, or pay by card.

2025/26 service change
This year you will not be sent a sticker for your garden waste bin. The sticker was just used to identify bins; however, our in-cab systems are capable of doing this job and stickers are therefore no longer necessary.
To match your bin to your subscription, we need the back of your bin to be clearly labelled with your house name or number from 1 April 2025.
If your bin is not labelled, we will not be able to match it up and it will not be collected.
How to label your garden waste bin
As long as we can clearly see your house name or number on the back of your bin, you can identify it any way you like.
Stencils, stickers or paint all work well.
If your bin is not labelled, we will not be able to match it up and it will not be collected.
Please ensure the back of your bin is clearly labelled with your house name or number by 1 April 2025 when the new service year starts.

With improvements to our in-cab technology we are now able to identify paid-for subscriptions without the need for a sticker on the bin.
We recommend that you remove the old sticker and relabel your bin with your house name or number. This is because the stickers are not designed to last longer than the service year and if we cannot clearly identify your bin, it will not be collected
The sticker represented a very small cost per customer. The majority of the garden waste payment is for the service, not the sticker and with service costs increasing for the council we will not be reducing the price of the service.
Just your house name or number will suffice. Please do not label your bin with any personal information
