Adopt a Street volunteer scheme
Do you have an interest in your local area and want to see it looking clean and tidy? Join our Adopt a Street scheme which already has hundreds of volunteers across the District who are passionate about protecting and preserving the environment on their doorstep.
Volunteers choose the area they want to adopt, and we will provide all the equipment they need to help with the clean up, including:
- Litter pickers
- Plastic bags
- Gloves
- Hi-Vis vests
We will collect any litter that you have picked up during the campaign. Please contain the litter within sacks, bring it back to your address and let us know the location by calling 01403 733144 at Adopt a Street and we will collect it from you.
We also provide health and safety training and help with coordinating the volunteers.
A road we drive through regularly – Greenhurst Lane – was constantly covered in litter, mainly fast food wrappers and drink cans but also car parts, lamps and wing mirrors. My partner Roger and I decided to contact the council having read about their new Adopt-a-Street scheme. The council supplied us with all the equipment, safety gear and advice we needed to get started.
The first time we went out it took 2 ½ hours to clear the lane but it really made a big difference. Now it only takes an hour every 3 or 4 weeks.
We would definitely recommend the scheme. It gets you out in the fresh air and is a great form of exercise and it really cleans up the area.
